The client brought a ChatGPT itinerary: quote it, don't redo it
A client sends you a ChatGPT itinerary and wants it booked. Use this 15-minute feasibility check, reply format and scripts to quote it properly.
Paris · 08:20"ChatGPT ne plan bana diya hai, bas isko book kar do. Kitna hoga?" If none of your clients has sent you their own ChatGPT itinerary yet, expect one soon, with only the booking left for you.
A travel survey cited by Outlook Traveller in September 2026 found that among respondents likely to use AI to plan travel, about seven in ten expected to use it for the itinerary and only about one in ten expected to trust it with the booking (Outlook Traveller). The dreaming's done; the booking's still yours. So don't rebuild their plan for free, and don't quote it blind either: any shut monument or impossible transfer in it becomes yours. Run a 15-minute check, send back their plan priced with flags, charge accordingly, and use the seven scripts below for what follows.
Quote their plan, don't rewrite it
Keep the client's day order and price what they sent. Rewriting it before you've even quoted reads as "your plan is wrong," and the hours spent redoing it go unpaid.
Sending the price back as-is isn't neutral either: once you take money against a plan, you're performing it, not reselling someone else's screenshot. In October 2024 the Delhi State Commission held an operator "bound to extend all facilities and courtesies as it had charged for the same and cannot backtrack," after it blamed its local vendor for the failed Malaysia leg of a Bali-Malaysia package, and upheld a refund of ₹2,00,000 plus ₹1,00,000 compensation, ₹50,000 costs and 9% interest on a ₹3,37,700 package (Delhi SCDRC). That reasoning rests on what was charged for, not on who drafted the plan, so don't count on a ChatGPT origin changing it.
Consumer law also treats deliberately withholding relevant information as a service "deficiency" (CPA 2019, s.2(11)). The definition is aimed at staying silent, not at telling the client their plan has three issues. So: price it as sent, and flag anything that will break the trip, in writing.
The 15-minute feasibility pass
Five checks, about three minutes each, aimed at what breaks a trip on the day. Run all five before you reply.
| # | Check | What to catch |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Opening days and hours | A site closed that day |
| 2 | Permits, quotas, seasons | A pass released only days ahead |
| 3 | Transfer times | Map time used as the real time |
| 4 | Hotel against the route | A hotel on the wrong side of town |
| 5 | Visa and entry lead time | An application window already closed |
- Opening days and hours. Taj Mahal shut Fridays; Louvre shut Tuesdays; Vatican Museums shut Sundays except the month's last; Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi needs a pre-booked pass and closes 11:30-14:30 on Fridays.
- Permits, quotas, seasons. Rohtang Pass permits come from a daily vehicle quota, open only for the next two days, and can't be cancelled once issued; Global Village Dubai reserves Tuesdays for ladies and families.
- Transfer times. Map time is a floor. Add the seasonal multiplier from the pacing guide.
- Hotel against the route. Check which side of town the named hotel sits on versus tomorrow's first stop.
- Visa and entry lead time. A Schengen application goes in no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; the standard decision period is 15 days, extendable to 45 (European Commission), and the visa-centre appointment wait comes before that. See the visa map by destination.
Anything you can't confirm today, like a quota-bound permit, goes into the quote as "subject to," never a promise.
The reply: their plan, priced, with three flags
Don't send a verdict. Send their plan back, priced, with up to three ranked flags, each carrying a price change. Copy this and fill the brackets:
Hi [Name], aapka plan dekh liya. Short answer: yeh ho sakta hai, teen changes ke saath.
YOUR PLAN, PRICED AS SENT
[Dates] | [Pax] | [Rooms / hotel category]
Price: ₹[X] + GST [+ 2% TCS on overseas packages, adjustable in your ITR]
Includes: [hotels, car/transfers, permits if any]
Excludes: [monument tickets, meals not listed, ...]
3 THINGS TO FIX BEFORE YOU BOOK
1. Day [n], [date]: [problem]. On the day: [what happens]. Fix: [one line]. Price change: [₹0 / +₹Y]
2. Day [n], [date]: ...
3. Day [n], [date]: ...
WITH ALL 3 FIXES: ₹[Y] + GST
Subject to: [anything you cannot confirm today, e.g. a permit released a day or two before]
Rates held till [day, time] (48 hours). To confirm: ₹[advance]. Revised day-wise plan and hotel confirmations follow the advance.
- Opening line: "it works, with three changes," not criticism.
- "Priced as sent" keeps their day order, so the client recognises their plan.
- Price line: name GST, and for overseas packages the TCS (2% as of October 2026), a client credit, not a cost.
- Three flags max, ranked by what would break the trip, each dated.
- A price on every flag, even ₹0: free fixes prove the check was worth it.
- Two prices, never just the fixed one; the 48-hour hold plus "revised plan follows the advance" stops your fix being shopped elsewhere for free.
Worked example: a Golden Triangle plan with a Friday Taj
Example: Hypothetical, illustrative rates only. A family of four, two rooms, travels 19-23 November 2026 (four nights) with a ChatGPT plan: Delhi sightseeing, then Agra with the Taj at sunset on Friday 20 November, then Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri with Amber Fort the same evening, an outskirts Jaipur hotel, then drop to Delhi.
Hotel net ₹5,500/room/night (2 rooms x 4 nights = ₹44,000) plus an Innova Crysta at ₹4,900/day for five days (₹24,500) gives net ₹68,500. At 15% markup, the plan as sent quotes ₹78,800 plus GST.
Three fixes, two free: Taj to Saturday morning (Friday closure), Amber Fort off the stacked Day 3 onto Day 4, and a central hotel instead of the outskirts one (+₹1,200/room/night x 2 rooms x 2 nights = +₹4,800 net).
With all three, net is ₹73,300 and the quote moves to ₹84,300 plus GST, ₹5,500 more than as sent.
When the check is free and when you charge
| Scenario | What you send | What you charge |
|---|---|---|
| Client books with you | The priced plan with flags | Nothing extra, it's part of the quote |
| Client wants only the check | A written review, same format | A flat review fee, adjustable against the booking within 7 days |
| Client wants a brand-new plan | A fresh itinerary | The full planning fee you already charge |
Keep the review fee modest and in line with your planning fee, on its own invoice line; confirm the SAC and rate with your CA before billing it.
Seven scripts for the AI-plan conversation
S1, first reply to "bas book kar do":
Hi [Name], plan mil gaya. Poora check karke kal tak exact price ke saath likh ke bhejta hoon.
S2, sending the priced plan:
Hi [Name], aapka plan dekh liya. Yeh ho sakta hai, teen changes ke saath. Dono price options neeche hain. [attach the priced reply above]
S3, "ChatGPT ne bola itne mein ho jayega": match inclusions first, the same way you answer "MakeMyTrip pe sasta hai". Google's own Gemini help page says LLM tools can present inaccurate information as factual; the hallucinations post has the background.
Samajh gaya, number alag lagega. Pehle screenshot bhejo jo poora plan dikhaye: hotel category, meals, car, permits. AI ka number koi held rate nahi hai, aur usme GST ya overseas package pe 2% TCS (jo cost nahi, ITR mein credit milta hai) juda hai ya nahi, yeh bhi pata nahi. Google khud apne Gemini help page pe likhta hai ki aise AI tools galat information ko sahi jaisa dikha sakte hain. Inclusions match ho jaayein, phir number se compare karte hain, feeling se nahi.
S4, "bas check kar do, booking main khud karunga" (review fee):
Poora plan check kar ke likh ke bhej sakta hoon: kya sahi hai, kya break hoga, date-wise fix ke saath. Charge ₹[1,000 domestic / 2,000 outbound], likhit review ke liye. 7 din mein book karo toh amount booking mein adjust ho jaata hai.
S5, client keeps a flagged day anyway:
Noted: Day [n] ([date]) plan jaisa hi rakha hai, flagged risk ke saath bhi. As planned book karenge; risk trigger hua toh on-ground alternative dhoondenge, lekin woh is quote ka hissa nahi hai.
S6, the anti-shopping close:
Jo warnings diye, woh free hain. Reworked days aur hold ki rates advance ke saath aati hain. Rates [day, time] tak hold (48 hours); uske baad price revise ho sakta hai.
S7, client returns with a re-generated AI plan:
Naya version dekh lete hain. Same 15-minute pass phir chalaata hoon, bataata hoon kya fix hua. Book kar rahe hain toh review ka dobara charge nahi.
Common questions
Client ne ChatGPT se itinerary banaya hai, kya main same quote kar du?
No, not blind, and not a rewrite either. Keep their day order, run the 15-minute check, and send it back with up to three flagged fixes.
Should I charge a client to check their AI itinerary?
Only if they want the check without booking through you. Booking with you makes the check part of the quote, free. Review-only, charge a flat fee, adjustable if they book within a week.
Can I write "it's the client's own itinerary, not our responsibility" to protect myself?
Don't rely on it. Once you've priced the plan and taken payment, you're the one performing it, and a 2024 Delhi State Commission order held a tour operator bound to extend everything it had charged for (Delhi SCDRC order). The written record of what you flagged and what the client chose is what helps; a disclaimer is not a shield.
What if the client's AI plan is actually fine?
Then say so and book it. Some will get the sequence and hotel locations right, and your 15-minute check will tell you fast.
The short version
- Price the client's ChatGPT plan as sent; don't rebuild it from scratch for free.
- Run the 15-minute, five-check pass first: opening days, permits and quotas, transfer times, hotel against the route, visa lead time.
- Reply with their plan priced "as sent" plus up to three ranked flags, each carrying a price change, even ₹0.
- Send two prices, as sent and with fixes, and let the client choose; never send only the fixed one.
- Free if they book with you, a flat review fee if they only want it checked, the full planning fee for a new plan.
- Anything you can't confirm today goes in as "subject to," never promised.
- Warnings are always free; the reworked days and held rates come only with the advance.
