| Cost | Basis | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Selling price per paying traveller, before GST | Price | ₹0 |
Your price
GST you collect is not income, so leave it out.
Per-person costs
₹0 per traveller, charged for FOC seats too. On the 5% package rate, enter supplier prices INCLUDING their GST as your cost. On 18%, enter prices before GST if you can claim the credit.
Fixed costs for the group
A tier covers groups up to its size, FOC seats included, and above your top tier the table shows no figure rather than a guess.
Free seats and group sizes
Sizes count paying travellers; FOC seats come on top.
Enter your selling price and at least one cost to see how many paying travellers you need.
How it works
- Enter your selling price per traveller, before GST.
- Add per-person costs, then fixed costs as one amount or as tiers by group size.
- Switch on FOC if you give free seats, and set the group sizes to compare.
- Read the break-even size, then copy the summary or download the table.
How the numbers are worked out
Each row adds your fixed costs at that headcount to the per-person costs of everyone travelling, free seats included, and compares the total with what the paying travellers pay before GST. To turn a cost into a price with a markup instead, use the markup vs margin calculator.

Questions operators ask
What does FOC mean in a tour package?
Free of cost: a seat given without charge, usually to a tour leader or group organiser, often agreed as 1 free for every 15 or 20 paying travellers. That seat's hotel, meals and transport still cost money, so the cost is spread across the paying travellers.
How do I find the break-even group size?
Break-even is the smallest number of paying travellers whose revenue covers fixed costs plus per-person costs, including any FOC seats. The calculator checks every group size, shows the first one that does not lose money, and flags any larger size where a bigger vehicle or a free seat pushes profit below zero again.
Why does cost per person fall as the group grows?
Fixed costs such as a coach, guide or tour manager are shared by more travellers. When the group outgrows a vehicle, the next vehicle's cost kicks in, so cost per person can jump at that size.
Does a free seat count towards the vehicle size?
Yes. A tour leader on a free seat still needs a seat, a bed and meals, so the calculator charges per-person costs for every FOC seat and picks the vehicle tier by everyone travelling. One free seat can cost more than one person's land cost when it tips the group into a bigger coach.
What price do I need for a 20% margin?
Divide your cost per paying traveller by 0.8. At ₹36,000 cost per paying traveller, a 20% margin needs a price of ₹45,000 before GST.
Should my costs include GST?
On the 5% package rate, enter supplier prices INCLUDING their GST as your cost. On 18%, enter prices before GST if you can claim the credit. Enter your selling price before GST either way, because the GST you collect is not your income.
