Enter the supplier cost to see the ROE to quote, your rupee price and what a rate move does to it.

How it works

  1. Pick the supplier’s currency and enter the cost.
  2. Check the reference rate, or type the rate your bank or forex provider quotes.
  3. Add a buffer, or type your own ROE, and your markup.
  4. Read the stress table, then copy the exchange-rate clause into your quote.

How the buffer protects your margin

The ROE you quote is the reference rate plus your buffer, and your markup goes on the whole rupee cost, including anything you pay in rupees. When you pay the supplier, every paisa the rate stays below your ROE is buffer kept, and every paisa above it comes out of your markup. The break-even payment rate is where the markup runs out.

The reference rate is an indicative mid-market rate, not what your bank will charge, so type your bank or forex provider’s rate when you have it. This calculator cannot book or lock a rate.

The buffer is part of your package price, so GST applies to the package as usual: see the tour package GST calculator.

TCS is separate from both. Bank remittances: education or medical 2% on the part above ₹10 lakh a year (nil if funded by an eligible education loan); other purposes 20% on the part above ₹10 lakh. Overseas tour packages: 2% on the full amount, collected by the tour seller. The TCS calculator works out the package figure.

Questions operators ask

What is ROE in a travel quote?

ROE is the rate of exchange you use to turn a foreign-currency supplier cost into rupees. Quoting at a slightly higher ROE than today’s rate gives you a buffer if the rupee weakens before you pay the supplier.

How much forex buffer should I add?

It depends on how long you wait between quoting and paying the supplier and how much that currency moves. Use the stress table to see what a 1% to 5% move does to your margin, then pick a buffer you can explain to the client.

Should markup go on before or after the buffer?

After. The buffer raises the exchange rate only; your markup then goes on the total rupee cost, including visas, flights or anything else you pay in rupees.

What is the break-even payment rate?

The rate at which paying the supplier uses up your whole markup and buffer. If the rate when you pay is above it, the booking loses money.

Is the rate shown here my bank’s rate?

No. It is an indicative mid-market rate from open.er-api.com, not a bank, card or FBIL rate. Type the rate your bank or forex provider quotes you for the most accurate result.

Does adding a forex buffer change GST?

The buffer is part of your package price, so GST applies to the package as usual. The calculator does not treat it as buying or selling foreign currency.

What is an exchange-rate clause?

A line in your quote stating the rate the price is based on and that the price may be revised if the rate moves before final payment. The tool writes one using your ROE.
